I have chosen and contacted a winner for my first ever contest! Thank you for entering!
Contest!
So I have decided to do my very first contest on the blog!
After making a few picture frames for yesterday’s post, I realized that I have the actual albums left over. I haven’t the foggiest idea what to do with them. So, my dear friends, I want you to give me inspiration!
Here are the rules:
In the comment section below, share an idea or two with me on how best to utilize old records. I will accept ideas for one week, stopping at 12am on Sunday, the 18th of November, 2012. I will pick my favorite idea to be featured in a blog post. There is no rhyme or reason; I will just pick whatever strikes my fancy. The person whose idea I select will win the pink vase from this blog post. If I choose your idea, I will send an email to the address you list in your comment.
And….go!
Record Deal: Completed
In my last post, I showed you how to turn an album cover into a picture frame. It was a simple and quick project that cost me a grand total of $.50 + a little glue. Now I get to present the final project….
Thanks for checking back in to see the final project. Happy Hunting!
Record Deal
So a few days ago I picked up some old albums at the thrift store. They were only $.50 a piece! My goal was to make them into picture frames. Here is how I did that.
First, I gathered my supplies – the album, a photo, a pen, an exacto knife, scissors, and a glue gun.
Not too long into the project, I realized I would also need a photo mat to trace.
Next, I placed my photo at different spots on the case until I decided where I wanted my photo opening.
Once I decided the spot, I used the photo mat to trace the opening.
Then I used my exacto knife to cut along the traced lines. (Careful not to push too hard and cut through the second layer of cardboard.)
Next, I used the glue gun to create a bottom edge for a photo to rest upon. (Careful not to glue too close to the edge. You want there to be around a half an inch gap.)
Now, my record slipped out of the side of the album – not ideal for a picture frame. So I cut open the top of the album, so the picture could be dropped in. Then I glued the side shut, so pictures wouldn’t fall out.
Finally, I took the little flap of cardboard I cut out already, and glued it to the back of the album to create a stand.
And that is it! The whole project cost me fifty cents and a bit of glue. Plus it only took me ten minutes to whip together. A great project to try at home! Check back tomorrow, when I post the completed project!
Silly Faces: Completed
In my last post, I showed you how to decorate your own dishes using permanent markers. Here is the completed project:
Silly Faces
Well, now that I completely skipped over Halloween here on the blog, let’s jump right to Christmas, shall we?
I spotted a great children’s plate last year on a favorite website of mine, uncommongoods. Basically it is just a simple face on a white plate. The idea is the kids can use their food to create funny characters. I loved the idea, but didn’t end up buying it last year. This year I spotted a great idea on pinterest and decided to merge the two things together into one project. Do you know that you can draw on plates and cups with permanent marker? You just bake for 30 minutes and voila! Completed project! So I decided to make my own face plates.
I started with a couple white plates
and an array of permanent markers.
I drew out the face and began coloring it in. (Tip, the metallic markers don’t work as well as the normal ones)
I finished the face and put in in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
And that is it. Seriously, nothing more to it. Check out my next post where I show off the completed plates.
